Letter 2
Enough of the wish-list
Yet another list of demands by the BNP (New Age, September 29). It seems that there is no end to the demands of the AL and the BNP! The caretaker government has fulfilled enough of their wishes. It is time for the AL and the BNP to do their parts. Until now they have been telling us that they cannot carry out any reform programmes because their party chiefs were in prison. Well, both of them have now been released and it is time for us to see some reforms.
We need the AL/BNP to give up hartal politics, student politics and get rid of their front organisations and overseas branches. I see no reason why these parties should be allowed to take part in our country’s general election if they don’t carry out these reforms before the election.
Our country is nobody’s family business and we are not here to fulfil people’s wish-lists. If there is a criminal case against someone then it is the judiciary that will decide their fate. We can’t allow political parties to hold ‘our’ general election hostage to get their people released.
