Dhaka stocks decline

Dhaka stocks plummeted on Sunday due to profit taking selling from investors after two days of rise, said market operators.
The general index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange lost 64.83 points, or 2.26 per cent, to close at 2803.28, while its blue chips index, DSE20, shed 37.09 points, or 1.54 per cent, to finish at 2378.84.
A DSE official said the market saw a decreased turnout of investors on Sunday due to incessant rain in Dhaka.
A stock broker said selling pressure pushed down share prices across the board. Investors offloaded their holdings for profits after a two-day rise in share prices, he said.
Of the total 234 issues traded, 41 advanced, 182 declined and 11 remained unchanged.
Turnover at the DSE also dropped to Tk 310.12 crore from the Thursday’s Tk 380.35 crore.
Beximco Pharmaceuticals topped the turnover leaders with a total transaction of Tk 26.03 crore.
Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution, ACI, DESCO, Islami Bank, LankaBangla Finance, Square Pharmaceuticals, Summit Alliance Port, Golden Son and Summit Power were the remaining nine turnover leaders.
Chittagong stocks also dropped on Sunday after a two-day bullish trend.
CSE selective categories index lost 120.89 points, or 2.11 per cent, to close at 5618.46, while its blue chips index, CSE30, shed 180.35 points, or 2.34 per cent, to finish at 7519.10.
Of the total 137 issues traded on the CSE floor, 19 posted gain, 116 dropped and two remained unchanged.
Turnover at the CSE went down to Tk 50.27 crore from the Thursday’s Tk 57.07 crore.
